SHIFT OUTLOOKS
8th Grade Orientation
(Reached 1250+ People | Since 2018)

Before 8th graders go into high school, they attend an event where they get to view different programs offered in the school. We teach the students about our team by preparing a presentation, having members talk about their experiences, and demonstrating our previous season’s robot. With this, we motivate incoming freshmen to join our team in the fall.

Boulder's Game
(Reached 3000+ People | Since 2023)

At Boulder’s stadium STEM & Robotics Night, we host a table where we have the opportunity to talk to thousands of people and arrange several activities, such as circuit-building and catching balls from our 2022 season’s robot.

Bridgewater
(Reached 1000+ People | Since 2023)

At our 2023 preseason, the Raritan Valley Robot Rumble, we participated in their Science & Technology Showcase. We had a table dedicated to displaying our swerve drivetrain and hosting a circuit-building activity for kids to do as they explored the Investigation Alley.

Enginering Expo
(Reached 15000+ People | Since 2018)

Since 2018, our team has participated in the Tri-State Engineering Expo, where we host a table that demonstrates different aspects of our robot from the season.

Informational Nights - Two Events
(Reached 5000+ People | Since 2018)

At our school’s annual Back to School Night and Parent Teacher Night, SO BOTZ hosts a table to demonstrate our robot. As students and families walk by, we talk to them about the process of building and programming the season’s robot and answer any questions that they have about our team. Prior to the start of our season, we also have Parent Night, where we talk to members’ parents about our robotics program, what their children will be doing, and events that will be held.

Makerfaire
(Reached 5000+ People | Since 2018)

The Maker Faire is a district-wide event that our school hosts annually, displaying STEM projects that students work on throughout the year. Our team gives a demonstration of our previous season’s robot to all the parents and students at the event while answering any questions people have about our robot, team, and members.

NGO CSW Status of Women Forum - United Nations
(Reached 15000+ People | Since 2023)

In 2023, our members attended a virtual meeting held by the United Nations NGO CSW Forum, an event that informs and engages efforts for gender equality advocacy worldwide. With over 15,000 participants from 139 different countries, this meeting aimed to inspire the support of women across the globe. At this event, we shared our experience empowering young women in Kenya with representatives from Kiwimbi International and STAGSS robotics team. By introducing computer science, engineering, and technology to the students at St. Thomas Amagaro Girl’s Secondary School, we’ve opened up new opportunities and experiences for these girls. While they initially had little experience with using tech, we taught them how to create Google accounts, send emails, meet virtually through Google Meet, etc. Through resources and materials donated by our team, regular communication, and the help of all our members, we have helped these girls grow their knowledge, allowing them to extend their learning into their communities.

New York State Advocacy Day
(Reached 5+ People | Since 2023)

SO BOTZ participated in New York State Advocacy Day, hosted by Team 1796. In a virtual meeting with Senator Bill Weber and Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, we discussed Assembly Bill A3445A and Senate Bill S1576 to secure state funding for future robotics teams in underserved communities across New York State.

Pep Rallies
(Reached 1200+ People | Since 2017)

Every year, our school has three pep rallies, in the fall, winter, and spring. Our members walk in each of them, holding posters to showcase our team to spread awareness and inspire other students to join.

SOTech Night
(Reached 1800+ People | Since 2020)

An annual event for grades K-5 that introduces young students to different aspects of technology. At the event, we collaborate with the Computer Science Club and teachers to offer a series of hands-on activities that teach students about the basics of computer science, robotics, and STEM. We host two stations, one showcasing our robot from the previous year and the other inviting students to drive the robot from 2019.

Space Day
(Reached 500+ People | Since 2024)

In honor of Mission SPACE, our school had Space Day, an event to collaborate with students’ peers in an interconnected learning experience across all disciplines. All classes had to create space-related lessons for the day. We took this as an opportunity to spread awareness of our team by allowing interested students to drive our robot, similar to that of a rover on the moon.

STAC Earth Day
(Reached 1000+ People | Since 2023)

STAC Earth Day is an outdoor event that focuses on the environment and an appreciation for the world we live in. Here, we present our robot to a variety of people by driving it and demoing its different functions.

Trunk or Treat
(Reached 1000+ People | Since 2018)

Every year on Halloween weekend, our high school holds the Trunk or Treat, where numerous clubs and teams decorate trunks and hand out candy to hundreds of younger students. We use this as an opportunity to show the younger generation aspects of our robotics team and to encourage interest in STEM by having our robot on display.
